Maybe a 3.5. Shabu marks the second restaurant my family went to for dinner in PC and honestly, I was a little disappointed. The food in itself was decent but for the price paid, it wasn't worth it. I made a reservation for five at 7:45PM and even though we took the bus over and walked up Main Street, we ended up coming in early around 7:30PM. We weren't seated until around 7:50-ish or so, during which we were crammed in a small waiting area which was already occupied by 6 other waiting-to-be-seated diners, the tiny reception desk with two staff persons running back and forth to access the overstuffed coat check in the corner, and disgruntled men waiting to relieve themselves in the men's bathroom, which was also located in that same corner. Talk about unwanted traffic. The venue in itself was underground, and had it's own eclectic charm. The running theme of the place was under-the-sea, with metallic sculptures of fish and an impressive dragon emerging from the walls, and strings of multiple shells hanging from the ceiling. It was more like a bar with several tables as opposed to the fancy restaurant I had imagined from looking at the website, but it was fine... or so I thought. Reason #1 as to why I wasn't too happy: it was loud. Noisy. Obnoxious. Looking for an intimate dinner with friend, date, or family? Forget it. There's Top 40's blasting away overhead and the never-ending chit chat of diners around you, both of which are so loud that it's likely your waiter will be like ours, who couldn't hear the food orders so she had to lean over. And yes, I can project my voice so... what's going on Shabu? None of us wanted dessert at the end because we all had headaches by the end of the night and wanted desperately to leave. Reason #2: food portions were TINY. Our waitress said it's more family styled, but family style my butt. The appetizers were shareable but the entrees were not that much bigger in comparison while being at least twice the amount in price. I'm sorry... I can get better food for a better price back at home than here. Reason #3 I ordered the Ginger Snap Sake-tini thinking it would taste good.. I wasn't really happy with it either. There were candied ginger that were cut finely and floating around in the drink, but I couldn't do much to taste the ginger except awkwardly either chew on those pieces or just swallow them whole. The vodka was too strong in relation to the sake, which I only tasted after religiously sipping the concoction. Onto the food: Small Cold Plates: // Shabu House Salad: ($14) Great starter. Very fresh and tasty :) My only qualm is the fact that the avocados were bunched together even though someone had taken the effort into cutting the flesh into thin slices; visually appealing but not very encouraging towards wanting to eat it lol. // Tower of Power: ahi tuna tartare. spicy sauce, avocados, mixed greens/ julienned vegetables (can't remember). Equally delish. It was literally a tower of layered flavors. Kind of reminded me of an Asian re-invention of a taco salad except more elegant and spicy. // Shabu Sizzle Pan: grilled beef with vegetables and house made teriyaki sauce ($28) It would've made a good meal if the sauce wasn't so sweet. Beef was seared well, and there was a generous serving of vegetables on a sizzle "pan". *be careful not to accidentally touch the handle... you will get burned as my brother did :( * // Tokyo Broil: marinated, grilled Snake River Farms beef tenderloin with a Szechwan peppercorn demi-glace, grilled asparagus, and an Indian curry potato puree ($40) Biggest mistake of the entire meal. The beef was cooked to medium just as asked, and it was juicy but it was made unpalatable by a simple mistake of seasoning. Someone behind the kitchen had a heavy hand when sprinkling the salt because it was too salty. There was no way anyone could even swallow a piece of it without gagging or cringing. The puree was the best part of that entree, but should not have been the star of the dish. // Grouper Dish: citrus coconut sauce, vegetable ratatouille, crispy carrots, quinoa in a sort of tortilla chip bowl (~$37) Best entree ordered. It was visually appealing, the flavors were tropical, festive and delicious. The vegetables were a perfect compliment. //Mango Madness roll: tuna, mango, steamed asparagus, and avocado, topped with crunchies and eel sauce ($18) Tropical fun and delish. // Park SIlly roll: salmon, steamed asparagus and avocado, topped with tuna and hamachi sashimi, lime, and serranos. Finished with sriracha and eel sauce ($17) a bit spicy.. the lime was awk. Wish they had grated in on instead. Conclusion: The flavors overall of the dishes were good... It just wasn't enough for me to want to come again, especially when we paid the same amount and had a much lovelier experience at the Farm. To each her own I guess. Notes: * the website isn't reliable.

The seafood tempura was just alright:(. The sashimi was excellent though. They had a jalapeno himachi that was amazing. The ribs were not what was expected. I would definitely come back for the sashimi again though.

This is our second time here! The decor is nice and cool. The firecracker shrimp is awesome. I also recommend the potstickers and all the sushi rolls we had were absolutely delicious. This is a high priced fusion place with stuff that is right at home in Park City!

If you can get in (hmph) it's worth it. Good food, we had the ribs, fish of the day, and sizzling Shabu. For dessert the flour-less chocolate cake and tempera ice cream. The service was a bit disorganized, though, and they seemed to make the place seem more exclusive as to restrict reservations and charge higher prices. They called us twice as we had the reservation three days before, and still couldn't seat us before 830, or so they said. We walked in at 8 and were promptly seated. It is a very small venue, but I was not impressed by the Mars roll we had as an appetizer. Drinks were solid, cocktails, wine and the after dinner wine.

Really loved everything about this place when I dined there over Labor Day weekend. It's a hole-in-the-wall restaurant on Main St. in Park City, and the atmosphere has that small-town feel while the menu packs big flavors. They specialize in Asian freestyle cuisine, and from what I could tell about the other restaurants on Main St., Shabu offers an environment and menu that is pretty unique - the place was packed! The only downside of a place that's so popular is that there was quite a bit of wait time to place our orders, but each time our order was taken, the staff was really friendly. So, on to the food. Must tries (based on what I ordered that night): Starters/Appetizers: -Blistered Green Beans (in a spicy miso sauce) - Coco Loco signature roll (Inside: Albacore tuna, cucumber and Thai basil, which added a really refreshing element. On top: salmon, avocado, tobiko, and a spicy/sweet wasabi-coconut aioli) Entrees: - Japanese Hot Pot: DELICIOUS. I could have bathed in the broth - seriously, it was that good. Broth aside, the seared scallops, shiitake mushrooms, carrots, bok choy, broccoli, asparagus, and soba noodles (don't worry, even though these are buckwheat they're gluten-free!) in a clay pot brought the whole dish to another level. Lots of texture and flavor and just enough spice. We also ordered a Sashimi Platter with Ahi, salmon, and yellowtail. It wasn't the best sashimi, but for a mountain town serving seafood, I think they did pretty good. Also, love that they have gf soy sauce and menu options available. I was hesitant to try the Hot Pot after reading that it came with egg noodles, but the waiter assured me that substituting soba noodles would be easy and gluten-free. Great food, great environment - I can't wait to go back on my next visit.

Extremely Americanized Asian food that's trying to look fancy- ugh. We came here after the F&W festival for dinner without checking out reviews first. I foolishly assumed that since the name of the place is shabu, that the food would be authentic. -_- The menu didn't look so bad, we chose to get the scallops and the 'nightly Japanese hot pot' which sounded good- chefs selection of vegetables and scallops in a light broth. The scallops were on a bed of crispy wonton chips with avocados and a sickly sweet sauce poured all over it. It completely overpowered the dish and sort of ruined the scallops. The hot pot broth was a tomato broth (wth) with very standard vegetables, nothing special. I would like to say though that the grilled scallops in the hot pot were tasty. Both dishes were extremely overpriced for what you get. If the food tasted good maybe it's more worth it but nah. Won't be coming back.

This is an incredible restaurant. The food is spot on, the place has a wonderful vibe, and the staff is incredible. The green beans were awesome. We ordered about 6 different rolls, and we loved every one of them. Make sure you call ahead and make a reservation, this place can get pretty busy!

We had a mixed experience with Shabu. Came during our March ski trip, and we had reservations booked well in advance. Despite this, when we arrived, we had to wait for 15-20 minutes, and there really isn't anywhere to wait, so you're constantly dodging other patrons coming and going. Then, when we finally did get seated, we were shoved into this corner table way in the front, behind the front door. The worst part of this particular spot in the restaurant is that the waitresses didn't pass our table, so we waited for an inordinate amount of time to get water, and to place our orders. In spite of the bad seating, and the long wait, however, things definitely improved as the meal progressed. Once she arrived, our waitress (Aimee) couldn't have been nicer, and most importantly, the food was good. Our dinner consisted of: - Poke salad - sushi-grade tuna in a soy/citrus dressing with some vegetables for texture - Beef and pork pot stickers - Blistered green beans in a spicy miso glaze (perhaps one of the highlights of the whole meal, absolutely outstanding!) - Firecracker shrimp - tempura shrimp in a dynamite sauce-type aioli - A beef dim sum dumpling - Yellow widow maki roll - soft shell crab roll topped with hamachi and tuna - Asian cowboy maki roll - tuna, cucumber, jalapeño, trout and avocado - very unusual and very tasty concoction Overall, the food was very good ... perhaps not the best sushi or Japanese food we have ever had, but considering it was the middle of the mountains in the middle of the ski seasons, a very good effort indeed!

The firecracker shrimp is like heaven on earth! Great vibe. Cool artwork. The wait staff is friendly and knowledgable. An excellent spot for a date night. The sake carafe emits a cobalt blue hue. The Shabu Shabu seafood hot pot with coconut broth is top notch. Shabu is killing it!

A meal nothing short of flawless! The Jalapeño Himachi and Wagyu beef cooked at your table on a hot rock are absolute must haves and were "slap your mama good"! I will make this one of my required stops anytime I'm in Park City!

SO flavorful~ We ordered way too much food, but ate it all because we couldn't stop ourselves! The black Cod is my favorite....but that's only by a hair, because everything else is so wonderful as well! It's a fairly small place, and LOUD, which is my only complaint. We had a table behind us doing shots, and they were a bit out of control. The booths run along either side of the restaurant, with one long table down the middle (they are actually many separate small tables, but feel as though they are one). The booths afford some buffer from the noise, so I prefer those. Also, I am not much of a cocktail person, but theirs are all good! I can't remember the one I had the other night,(maybe the green dragon?) but it had green tea in it, was not too sweet and perfect paired with the food.

The good - The atmosphere - really cool and well decorated place - The service - great one - our server was friendly, funny and cool and others helped as well - The hot rock - wow, that was something amazing! The bad - Everything else besides the hot rock was mediocre. The shabu pot was just "meh" and had strange ingredients you won't see at more authentic Shabu places - like cilantro. What the what? Also there wasn't enough seafood in it - barely any shrimp, for example. - The food was way overpriced for the quality and the quantity we got. We had an OK experience, but definitely not worth coming back for.

One of the best dining experiences I've had in Utah, and the quality of the fish is absolutely amazing. First, one of the members of our group has a severe gluten allergy. The staff were so friendly and accommodating with regards to making sure that certain parts of our meal were gluten free. There's even a whole gluten free menu that's available upon request. We ordered a bunch of food to share, so I got to try a little bit of everything. Appetizers: Blistered Green Beans - YUM. So delicious. The sauce was a perfect companion to the perfectly cooked beans. Firecracker Shrimp - A huge win. The shrimp was battered perfectly, and cooked to perfection. Not at all overcooked and rubbery like other fried shrimp I've had. Hot Beef Rock - They bring out thin raw slices of meat, a buttery sauce in which to dip the slices, and a super hot sizzling rock on which to sear them. We got one of each, Japanese and American. While both are amazing - the Japanese is the clear winner. The meat is perfectly marbleized and melts in your mouth. Worth the pricey upgrade. They even brought out a separate rock and gluten-free sauce for our friend. Sushi: Ikura (Salmon Roe) - One of my favorite types of sushi. I've tried this at several other Utah sushi restaurants and it was obvious to me it wasn't the freshest. This version was AWESOME. Supreme quality, no fishy taste, and looked super fresh. Honey Roll - I really enjoyed it, but it was a pinch sweet for me. I preferred the Yellow Widow roll which was simpler. Yellow Widow Roll - The soft shell crab was cooked perfectly. Out of the two rolls, this was my favorite. Our friend with the gluten allergy had miso black cod. She absolutely adored it - said it was one of the best fish dishes she's ever tried. The service was perfect - very attentive and our server Lisa was knowledgable about the sake selection and dishes. I highly recommend trying Shabu. Make reservations in advance if you go. They're quite busy on the weekends. We had to wait about 45 minutes for a party of 4 without them.

You must have the blistered green beans!!! What a blend of wonderful tastes for the tongue! The spicy tuna roll was pretty average but I'm so happy they have a gluten free menu and soy sauce. Nice!!!! Very nice!!!

Loved everything about this place. Fantastic food! Shabu was really great! Japanese Wagyu Beef cooked on a hot rock was AMAZING! Some of the best beef I've ever had! Chef's choice sashimi was fresh and delicious! We sat outside as the weather was great! Really cool to sit outside and admire the people traffic and Park City trolleys that run up and down the street. Great sake and staff/service was great! Highly recommend!

We were walk-ins for 9:45pm seating for 2 (got in at 9:35). We seated and menus were provided. The hostess asked if we had ever been at Shabu and we responded that we were tourist and have not. She said that she would be back and explain the menu. She never came back to explain. Our server, Clint came 10 minutes later after we had asked if someone will be coming to take our orders (10 minutes from our seating, 20 minutes when he got to us). He got out drinks and we ordered two ramens and dim sum. Ramen came 15 mins. later and the dim sum came after another 20 mins. The dim sum was $15 and when we got it we were surprised to see FIVE dim sum. I was not sold on the taste and say it was worth $3 a piece for a 1" x 1" somai. Then we ordered another ramen to go and specifically asked the veggies be separated from the ramen. 15 minutes passed by we asked our server how's the to go order coming along and he checked and mentioned that they were just putting the veggies in a container. When we arrived home, there were no veggies in a container. I am really disappointed with the service we received and price, and the time to be served and continuously asking while our neighbor is getting service immediately. I would really like to come back and hope to try a better experience. I wrote to Management and surprisingly the owner wrote back and had apologized for the service we received and offered to mail or hold a $50 giftcard for us. I said please mail it. Two weeks later I followed up on the giftcard and got an apology that they were busy and will now send me the giftcard. Still another 2 weeks has passed no giftcard. I have written back and asked that he can forget about sending it to me. Horrible service received and empty promises, would not dine there again.

Came here with my daughters (12 and 14 yo) President's week. We enjoyed the potstickers, veggie tempura, wagyu beef hot rock, fried rice with tofu and tofu ramen noodle soup. The food was solid. Our server, Chelsey was extremely attentive which I appreciated very much.

Fairly good service in general, plus we got seated quickly. The atmosphere was lovely and intimate, in this case a synonym for crowded. I was not as fond of the ambiance until I began to eat at which time I became more accustomed. Even after this it was still a bit bothersome. Of course I tried the shabu, which was excellent and quite enjoyable. Regardless of the superiority of this dish, the sushi was mediocre. For an Asian fusion restaurant it was rather disappointing. The bill came out to be $95/4 people, even though we ordered lightly. Unfortunately most Park City restaurants total upwards of this. Overall we came to a consensus that Shabu was "decent", and there are better restaurants nearby. If you are in search of another restaurant, I highly recommend Chimayo. It is a family favorite and definately worthwhile. Hope this was helpful

Came here to try the shabu shabu and was disappointed. Not authentic at all. The beef slices were too thick and there were practically no veggies provided, just lots of cilantro. The drinks were good but overall, would not come back to try more given the price for what you get.

Went there last night. We shared some appetizers among the group, and I really enjoyed the Poke Salad and the Ramen Noodle Soup with shrimp. The soup has a lot of noodles, so i mainly ate the broth and shrimp but it had a really good flavor. We also got the House Salad which was arugula salad with poached pear- it was okay, but the pear pieces were pretty small so the flavor didn't stand out very much. My dad got the Shabu Shabu with traditional broth and a combination of meats. They precook the chicken so you just have to leave it in to get warm, which was a great idea for the health hazard aspect of uncooked chicken. It also had a good variety with salmon, ahi, and scallops. Service was good, and the place got crowded while we were there, so make a reservation!

I really don't get the haters here, this place is a solid 4.5, and better on a good night, Shabu rocks ! Literally, get the Kobe (Japanese Wagu) hot rock, it is fabulous. Rich buttery melt in your mouth grade 5 beef seared and dipped in truffle butter, as good as it gets if you are a foodie hedonist. Some Nobu favs are on the menu, like the Miso Cod and the yellowtail jalapeno finished with yuzu soy. These are a true homage to the Master, but carry a little more flavor than Nobu, having been there twice in the last 3 months. The rolls are deeply creative and richly flavored, more so than the simple, yet somewhat bland offerings at Nobu. If you like flavor, creativity and proper seasoning, this is your place. However. true Nobu purists may find it sacrilegious, but I disagree, I find it refreshing, not bland. The place is small and popular, so reservations are now mandatory. The service was great and our server was incredibly knowledgeable and into the food, which can really make your experience. Highly recommended.

Portions were extremely small, considering the high cost. Ribs were mostly fat. We would not recommend this restaurant. We only got 4 dumplings per order for about $16!

This place is terrible. Been here twice and both times brought me an incorrect order after waiting almost 2 hours for the food. Then took another hour to bring out what I ordered, after my table had already finished eating... The third time I tried eating here, we had reservations, which they bumped for another group and told us we no longer had reservations. Screw this place, save yourself the trouble and enjoy any other great restaurant on Main Street. I recommend 'Silver'.

We ate at Shabu twice during our recent vacation in Deer Valley. Sushi was excellent as was the Miso Cod and Moo Shoo Duck. Service was attentive, good wine list and some interesting cocktails. A must for anyone visiting Park City.

Wanted to give a negative star. Horrible service. The server took forever to come to our table and then left in the middle of taking orders. Can't say anything about the food and we left right after that.

My husband and I were road-tripping through Utah last month and stopped in Salt Lake City to visit a friend. We headed to Park City for dinner, not having a restaurant in mind. After walking up and down Main Street, we were persuaded by the posted award certificates and articles and decided to eat here. There were too many screaming children downstairs for our taste, so we sat outside on the deck, despite it getting a bit chilly. A server attended to us promptly (and continued to be great the rest of the evening) and we ordered several things to share among the three of us. The blistered green beans came out first. DELICIOUS. Then the firecracker shrimp arrived and we were just about in heaven. The firecracker shrimp is on our list of the most delicious things we've ever eaten. We ordered three sushi rolls: the honey roll, nitro roll, and volcano roll, I think. The ingredients were good quality, but we all found the flavors to be overly complicated. I feel that part of the beauty of sushi is the simple flavor of the fish, and this just had too much going on. It wasn't bad; we certainly ate it all, but it wasn't our favorite. So, we ordered another plate of blistered green beans! So. Good. This review gets four stars simply because of the green beans and firecracker shrimp (and the service was good). If we'd only had the sushi, I'd have been much more lukewarm on the place.

This place is fantastic - I can't recommend highly enough. We went there with a group of 11 (3/2015) when visiting, they were super nice and accommodating, despite one of our kids breaking a glass early on. Drinks were great - try the Alpenglow. Food was sensational - potstickers, the hot-rock beef, the "pot" (soup) of the day, amazing salad with asian pears in it, the shabu shabu, black cod - all of that was as good or better than a top place in LA. Expensive, but well worth it. To top it off, the next night our reservation fell through and we were roaming town with 16 people - and we went back. They could take us, were awesome about it, and we had amazing service with fun, engaging servers, busboys, you name it.

Great food, but as the rest of the restaurants on Main Street Park City, way overpriced. We paid $36 for wraps with a tiny bit of duck. Not worth that kind of money.

I was so happy and surprised when I saw that Utah had a shabu shabu place. This is something I crave often. I've had shabu shabu in California and New York. For those that don't know what shabu shabu is, it means "swish swish." It's the japanese version of hot pot, so you swish your meat in the pot of broth. It's usually a great and different experience if you haven't ever tried it, unless you don't like to cook your own food. Shabu for about $30? That's kind of expensive for shabu, but it's expected since there's not much competition for it out here. My first impression was that it was quite fancier than expected and they eat it different out here. Here, they give you skewers to dip your meat into the broth and then the sauce. They give you udon noodles when you ask for it. Usually, at other places they dont give us skewers for the meat. You usually cook the meat in either broth or boiling water that you season yourself w/ different condiments, oils, garlic, onions, and so forth. If you eat shabu a lot, you know it's mostly about the sauce. The sauce here was whatever, you couldnt even season it to change it like at other shabu places. They dont even give you a plate of vegetables here like at other places as well too. Usually, we get both rice and several noodles to accompany the meat and vegetables and sometimes an egg as well. As you can tell I was not happy with my shabu experience here. I will just have to wait and fulfill my craving elsewhere next time.

Overpriced non-authentic Japanese food. $5 for a miso soup???!!! The $17 sushi is even worst than Costco's. The rice is all saggy & smooshy. This place is absolutely over rated.

First review written, take the time to stop by this gem. Sushi is so fresh, sizzling shrimp was INCREDIBLE, and the hot rock beef was amazing. Experience 5 stars Atmosphere 5 stars Service 5 stars Last note in the service, food was brought out one dish at a time. The servers ran like clock work, it was one of the best services I've ever had.

We went during a very slow time and had a great experience. The service was great and the food was AMAZING! Our favorite thing was the yellowtail with jalapeño. My husband and I want to go back and order a plate each to ourselves it is sooo good. The hot rock was fun and the meat was melt in your mouth. The shabu was also fun but the other two dishes blew it out of the water. If your in park city give it a try. Oh and the saketinis were delicious according to my husband.

Awesome food, great service and not too too expensive. Sushi is well prepared and fresh, shabu is out of this world. Tip: get the coconut broth it's unreal. Outside seating can be noisy with the sports bar across thw street so I recommend inside seating. Bigger tables inside as well are better for the shabu shabu too.

Good Sushi rolls and a really cool atmosphere. We really fell in love with the staff and the food was good. We only had the sushi (a lot of it) so Can't comment on the other food but while the sushi isn;t as good as we can get back east it was much better than exppected.

I love shabu, been there many times but tonight i had poor poor service. Chewie was our server. We ordered our meal: a perfect manhattan, firecracker shrimp, hot rock, and a volcano roll. The drink never made it out. By the second course my date orders the drink again, he says oh another. Brings the drink. 3rd course: nearly throws the roll at us, slides and hits my water. I said wow and he just walked off. Never checked on us til our 3rd course when there are only 2 pieces left. Drops the check with 3 cocktails on it. Wave him down "oh is there 3 cocktails there?" he already knew then why not fix it. Worst server ever. Chewbacca whatever his name is.

Kind of meh. Food was ok, but literally double what it would have cost me in NYC and just tasted uninspired. Got the gin thyme drink....I love gin, I love thyme. Somehow this cocktail tastes like cough syrup. The iced tea is phenomenal. Seriously best I have ever had. Lively atmosphere I guess. Wouldn't recommend unless you really wanted sushi n

We ate at Shabu as the 2nd day into their new menu and lunch hours. The service was a bit shaky, but the food was fantastic! I had the Bahn mi sandwich. I'm not sure what this sammie is supposed to taste like, so I can't comment on it's authenticity. But it's deliciocity was unmatched. What a wonderful combination of flavors that really should have no business working together. This was one of the best sandwiches I've ever eaten. The patio was very cool, situated between the sidewalk and Main street. The beers were cold and the wine list was good. The sushi was overpriced, IMO, but was still delicious. We definitely planning on hitting up Shabu next time we're in PC.

Had heard about this place but don't make it to Main Street often. The blister beans were great and the fire shrimp dish. I ordered a roll that was as close to my normal roll at another sushi place that I love. Well the combinations of favors ,lemon, mint, and worst of all jasmine rice were awful. Fusion ? I guess. The prices were high compared to other places in town . I guess fusion means pricier. Our server was unattentive. But worst of all the place is dirty . Maybe they should use the money from some of the overpriced menu options and hire a cleaning company. My friends and I will not be back, there are to many sushi bars in town to settle for this place.
(2)
Christine M.
I am really baffled by the bad reviews on here. I have eaten here several times and would give it a solid 4-5 stars each time. The prices here are on par with what you'd pay for anything decent to eat on main street. Get a hot rock or maybe two for the table. The jalapeño yellowtail app is crowd favorite as well.

The experience at Shabu was very enjoyable for my family and I. We made a reservation, and they prompted seated us. The service may have been a little spotty, but overall, it was very organized and effective. We ordered Firecracker Shrimp, the Wagyu Hot Rock, and 2 Shabu's. While it may not have been a traditional Shabu, it was very fun to cook the meat. I enjoyed the experience greatly. However, the cost is rather high considering the portion size.

Great little restaurant recommended by friends. Had an early reservation (family of four, two small kids) and were seated immediately. Place was empty when we arrived at 6:00 but was hopping an hour later. Ordered a bunch of small dishes and enjoyed everything we had. The hot rock beef was the standout. My kids had a blast cooking the meat and it was delicious. Servers did a nice job of timing bringing out the plates - we had ordered a lot and they staggered it a bit so everything didn't arrive at once. Asked for a side dish of stirfried veggies (not on menu) just to add some green to the meal and they were awesome. The noodles and potstickers were great as well. Definitely would return.

My favorite high end restaurants in Park City. The first time I went was for my birthday and it was a memorable might. When the bf had business associates in town, this is where we went. It's a "special occasion" type of place. Dining at Shabu isn't just eating dinner, it's an experience! The waygu beef that you cook yourself on a hot rock is the best! Sometimes they offer it with kobe beef, yum. It's so much fun. I don't think I could ever go there with the bf and not order it, kobe or not. The sushi is unique, the firecracker shrimp are a must! And the cocktails...ooh the cocktails. I forget the name, but it was with grapefruit juice, vodka and sake. Amazing! I think I had 3 that night. This is my go to restaurant is you want a fabulous meal in a beautiful setting. And the setting, what a trip! The artwork and decor is phenomenal. If you aren't taking a few pics, you must be blind. My bf even took pics of the men's room. (not sure what was going on in there, lol) It's expensive, but it's well worth it! I recommend making reservations. It's a small place and packed in the winter. Overall, it's an unforgettable experience! (Pardon all the exclamation points, but I am passionate about good food.) Thank you, Shabu!

Food....exceptional. This was probably the FRESHEST sushi I have ever eaten. The Dim Sum....to die for. The Cod.....OMG. Amazing. Service could have been better. The hostess and the greeter were very nice and sweet but the server was a little absent. I really like attentive service. The wine, food, and drinks were excellent. If you are looking for exceptional Asian cuisine in Park City, run to Shabu. (Just ask for a great/knowledgeable server)

there's another reviewer who had the same HORRIBLE Waitress as we did: we asked about the Shabu Shabu Hotpot to which she responded "i think it's the worst thing on the menu. It's basically boiling meat". I took sort of offense to this b/c this is what our group of 12 people came to experience. The name of the restaurant is "shabu".... i imagined it would be their signature item. We then asked her what she would recommend, and it became obvious she was recommending only the items on the menu which were most expensive.... Lame So we ordered without her advice. Wagyu beef: wow! this comes out on a wonderful hot stone to sear and cook the meat. Very cool and great Tuna Tuna: beautifl and tsty. I suppose every restaurant has some sort of rare tura dish. Dumplings: Not the best dumplings i've ever had... but then again, i'm asian Green Beans! WOW MY FAVORITE! seriously, it's very tasty with peanut bits on top. I highly recommend this! Now to the SHabu SHabu...: We got the beef and seafood broths. Very tasty and the lady couldn't be more wrong. There a nice sweetness to the beef broth. I recommend orderingand asking for a bunch of noodles to add to the dish though. Noodles are always great with hot pot. The meat wa sa decent amt for 2.5 people. Lots of fun for a group. Shabu Sizzler: uhm... this was kind of interesting, at first it sounded like it would be a big platter of sizzling goodness (think Korean BBQ). But it was a little fajita sized platter. and vegetables.... ok. I would have preferred my vision. But now people know!

If you prefer to have your dinner completely free of customer service, try this place. Got here at 6:45 tonight & asked for a table for two. The host said it would be about 20 minutes, and we'd have a seat at the bar. He said he'd text us when it was ready. After having a drink next store, we stopped by again about half an hour later to see if our spots were ready. "Nope, but it looks your place at the bar will be ready soon." After 45 minutes at another nearby bar, we stopped in again. "We're getting your places at the bar ready." We stand there for 10 minutes without being acknowledged, as fancy-looking people in furs stream in (I was in my ski jacket) and are promptly seated. When they're all done being treated as royalty, the host comes back to us. "Will you be here tomorrow? All our reservations have shown up and we can't seat you tonight." An hour+ of waiting, and we were never told that our seats were contingent on others showing up - though we were initially told they were contingent upon two people simply finishing their meal. Out of the hundreds or perhaps thousands of times I've dined out, I've never been turned down for a table like this. I'll never come back. If this place has management, I suggest they ask the bleach-blonde guy who was hosting on 3/16/2013 why he did such a poor job. And if ownership cares, I suggest they look to restaurants like High West and Oishi for inspiration on how to actually appreciate the people who want to give them money. Because until they learn that a customer is someone who chooses to give a business money, they will never get mine.

It was a blast. Cooking on the hot rock was fun. The potstickers were great as was as the Black cod. My grandchildren enjoyed it also. The staff was very attentive.

It was all just descent Americanized Asian food. I had the ramen with chicken, the broth was not flavorful at all, and they claimed to have imported Japanese noodles.
Is it a bit pricey? Yes... Is it worth it? YES! Grab a "Best Deals Coupon Book" from the Park City tourism center and use the $25 off $75 purchase coupon. That will help with the bill! For food we tried the Blistered Green Beans, Beef Hot Rock, Jalapeno Yellowtail, Dim Sum, and Spin wheel roll. The Hot Rock beef and Jalapeno Yellowtail is an absolute must! The blistered green beans were amazing and I'm searching for a recipe to make at home. The dim sum was good, but wouldn't order it again. The Spin wheel roll was complex with tart and spicy, was really refreshing and delicious. For cocktails we tried the Green Dragon, No Thyme like the present, Purple Haze Sake and the Effen martini. All were perfection, they have great bartenders, even the garnish was well executed. We will be bringing our "Foodie" friends to Shabu as they will fully enjoy the whole experience.

We stopped in due to this restaurants proximity to the No Name Saloon after a long day on the slopes, the place was packed so we ate dinner at the bar. The service provided by the bartender (whose name I forget) was first rate! The food was so amazing that we made plans for a return visit later in the week! Dont miss the hot rock beef, firecracker shrimp, spicy green beans and the sushi was AMAZING!!!!! We will absolutely be back the next time we are in Park City!

We decided to hit Shabu again this ski trip because the food was so good. We had a 45 minute wait after our reservation time and the owner got snappy when we asked about the delay this time. Much different attitude and service... the waiter we had also annoyingly kept trying to push the firecracker shrimp on us. He even suggested that it was so good that we order it for desert. Problem is im from Florida and have been eating the exact same thing except with actual shrimp not mini shrimp at Bonefish for years. Im not impressed Shabu anymore, seems like they have gotten cheap

After trying 25+ restaurants in the Park City area over the past six months, I decided it was time to write some reviews. We discovered Shabu during October's Dine About program. (Important note: This is for the original Shabu which is located in historic Park City. There is a Shabu Shabu in Kimball Junction, which has no relationship with Shabu, other than riding on its coattails. I suspect some of the negative reviews here are actually confusing the two.) Simply put, this is our #1 restaurant in Summit County. And it's in our top 20 restaurants west of the Rockies. Although I've tried sushi/sashimi several times, I have never enjoyed it. We only ended up at Shabu because our other two choices on the DIne About menu for that night were closed for private events. And I loved it. We went back days later and are counting the days until it is open again. (They close for the first two weeks of November to get ready for ski season.) First, to the decor. The place is fascinating. They have combined the original brick walls with a rich color scheme accented by sculptures from a local artist who uses found items. The gleaming dragon that runs along one wall is a marvel. Their menu is intriguing and original. They combine different flavors to great effect, without overdoing it and having to take 10 minutes to explain what's in each dish like other foodie places have fallen prey to. A lot of the sauces are house recipes, and we haven't had a single thing that we wouldn't order again. Try the Wagyu hot beef served on a hot stone - my husband has brought it up at least a half dozen times in the last two weeks. Service is impeccable - friendly, informative, always on top of everything without being intrusive, while maintaining a perfect level of professionalism. The prices are low enough that you don't have to have a special occasion to go there, which is why the place is filled with locals a lot of the time. Simply said, if you only have one meal in Park City, have it at Shabu.

Really cool atmosphere! Steam punk Dragon on the wall. Food was decent, well presented maybe a little expensive. The lamb was the best dish we got. I would definitely come back. I came on a monday night it was pretty quiet so food didn't take too long. Miso soup is really good.

Shabu never disappoints. We have eaten there several times in our many trips to Park City. On this trip we were especially entertained by Freddy at the Sushi Bar. Personality plus and he makes a mean roll. His knowledge of food, his preparation and overall friendly manner just gave Shabu another star for us. Highly recommended! Was planning to go to Bandits to have Christmas dinner but it was closed! Fortunately, its neighbor, Shabu was open...and boy was it crowded! We ordered the Spicy Tuna, Nitro (Salmon Substitute for Tempura Shrimp) and the blistered green beans. I think the overall winner was the blistered green beans. The rolls were okay but were ridiculously priced for the selection and quality you get. Yes they have decent quality of fish, but as far as the creativeness of the rolls, very basic. I would've been pretty irritated if it wasn't for the Sushi Chef that kept dinner very lively. I don't remember his name but he was Mongolian. Really was a nice guy that gave us great service. Hope to see him next year! Bottom line: If you like California rolls, you probably will like Shabu. If you're like me and don't, look elsewhere! Try: Blistered Green Beans Avoid: Having high expectations for quality sushi.

Shabu is a nice place with a patio on the back (over the alley, eh....) and a patio on Main Street outdoors. When we went there both patios were completely full and the inside, which is a little dark, was totally empty. Shabu has a good menu and a nice assortment of small cold plates, small hot plates (appetizers) and interesting entrees. I had the scallops and a salad and it was prepared very well. The wine list is extensive and the wait staff are very professional. The restaurant feels comfortable and the staff makes you feel welcome. This is now one of my favorite places in Park City. My only complaint is the same one that I have for every restaurant on Main Street. Prices. $50 for a meal/salad and wine per person is just too much for a casual meal. I don't mind it for a nice dinner out with my wife on a date but it's too pricey for the 'drop in after fly fishing with my buddy' deal. Food, Ambience, Service - all five star. Prices drop it to four stars. Still great, just be prepared. I'm just sayin....

We visited Shabu on our recent trip to Park City. Shabu is a nice restaurant that was recommended by many locals as the best sushi in the area. My wife and I enjoyed the Nitro Roll and Mango Madness.

My girlfriend and I visited Shabu the first weekend of Sundance Festival this past January. We were a little late making our reservations, however Shabu were understanding and they did their best to accomidate us! They were very professional about everything and still managed to reserve a table for us on that busy weekend. The atmospher was a bit noisy but loved the food! Great place for Japanese food if your in the Park City Area.

Without question this is one of the best Asian fusion restaurants I've ever been to. The menu is incredibly inventive and excellently prepared, and this is even before I found out that the owner worked for seven years at NOBU. Also, our server, Aimee, was informative and excellent.

Let me start out by saying I am not one to pass judgement on an establishment based on a brief encounter with a moody employee, but after the experience I had at shabu I'm passing judgement and I'm passing it big time baby. I'm a yelp review virgin, but shabu made me pop my cherry. Let's rewind a bit. Based on a few recommendations we decided to try out shabu. The space was pretty cool, the crowd was decent (albeit a bit high in the douche baggery quotient), and the food was above average at best. The seared green beans, beef short ribs, and dragon crisps were decent. The ramen, and scallops were horrendous. We enjoyed our fair share of cocktails which were actually quite good. During our meal the service was spotty -- drinks we ordered would be sitting on the bar for fifteen minutes, and it took the waiter 20 minutes to take our food order after we got our drinks. When we finished our food and drinks the waiter came with our bill and said, "here's your check, I wish I could offer you dessert, but I can't because my manager says we need this table ASAP." Um, excuse me? The four of us just dropped 300 bucks in an hour and fifteen minutes and were made to feel that we were holding up the flow of their restaurant? I was incredulous. I told the manager that in all of my 30 some odd years never had I been treated this way in any kind of restaurant -- and I live in New York City, world capital of affected waiters and restaurant managers. He claimed that the waiter acted alone and was trying to move the table along based on "server's greed." Hard to say who is to believe, but one things for sure, the harried staff here are among the most incompetent I've seen in any type of restaurant anywhere.

Ate here a couple of nights ago. We ordered the shabu shabu, notwithstanding the server's lack of enthusiasm wrt that dish. We also ordered moo shoo chicken. And greenbeans. The Shabu Shabu was fine. Nothing to write home about. The mooshoo was nothing compared to what you get in good Chinese restaurants. The greenbeans were yummy. I did like the poke salad.

Just to be accurate---it's really 4 and a half stars in my book....Sushi in Utah? Yes, this is a very creative place that dishes out some seriously great sushi. We had everything and we even enjoyed a surprisingly good wine list. Seaweed salad was tremendous. Miso soup was flavorful. They featured a New Zealand trout that was similar to salmon---awesome. Rolls, mushu duck, everything that found my plate....very good. And they were packed. Not an open spot in the place from 645 until 9:30. And the owners worked the place and seemed to know everyone by name. You got to go to this little downstairs sushi place.

We ordered the oysters on the half shell - the ramen, shabu shabu and the chocolate bread pudding. I was not impressed with any of the dishes. Not to say the food was horrible but it was just ok and for the prices just ok isn't acceptable. The silver lining was the delicious martini's with blue cheese stuffed olives. I can't find blue cheese stuffed olives very easily and I was impressed they were offered even at an added cost of 2bucks. Bottom line - I probably wouldn't recommend eating at Shabu but I would recommend sitting at the bar for martini or two.

Oh I thoroughly enjoyed our visit to Shabu! I am slowly introducing my family to the joys of sushi and I really had to argue my point to get them to have dinner here, but everyone ended up enjoying it to the fullest! I won't say it's the best sushi I've ever tasted, but it is fully worth the prices they charge, especially considering it's sushi in a land-locked state. I started off with a Gingersnap Sake-tini, which was fantastic! I usually go with unfiltered sake in sushi restaurants but the description of this martini intrigued me, and while I wouldn't be able to drink more than 2 of them, I did enjoy it. Very different from the average martini list. I had the Poke Salad and split the Rainbow Roll and the Lollipop Roll with my friend, and we enjoyed both of them very much. Fresh-tasting, tightly wrapped, nothing worse than sushi rolls that fall apart when using chopsticks. I am hoping to return to Park City soon and I will definitely be arguing a return visit to Shabu!

The hot menu items are solid, but not spectacular...three stars for Park City. Shabu's sushi easily rates four stars, but their service and logistics always leave just a sour enough taste in my mouth that it drops the rating into the three star range. Order the sashimi or at least the nigiri...not the rolls, which are not all that stellar. Sushi restaurants are never a great deal, nor are restaurants in Park City...but Shabu is a particularly bad deal if you are price-conscious. Plan on spending $150 for two people if you're hungry and each have a drink.

So 1 yr after we visited this place, we still have fond memories of it. By far our favorite dining experience in the park city area. After a long day of skiing, nothing could possibly sound better than hot pot. When we were planning our return visit for March, we put this place as a must do on our list. You might have to wait a little bit for the meal the meal to come together, but it's well worth it.

Regrettably, Shabu is one eating establishment that my family and I will not frequent again. Shabu is a sure pass with its poor service and mediocore, plain tasting dishes. Our dinner reservation was at 8:20 pm on a Tuesday night -non ski season. Besides us, there were about two other tables on that quiet evening. We had expected recommendations by our server, but found her to be indignant and 'bugged' by our questions. *The Coconut Crusted Tofu - crispy fried, served on stir-fry vegetables with sweet soy sauce for $24* Upon asking the server if there's a recommended spicy dish, I was ensured that "any dish can be made spicy hot." So, I specifically emphasized to make my order extra spicy hot. My dinner arrived as usual - with no spicyness added to it - nothing. *Wagyu Beef Hot Rock - Australian-raised wagyu beef strip loin and ponzu butter dipping sauce for $24* This dish had about 7 toddler sized pieces of plain, un-marinated (but tender) beef that came with melted butter cooked on a hot rock at the table. *Miso Glazed Black Cod - with Asian noodle egg foo yong and wok vegetables for $38* The cod was surprisingly fatty and juicy, but plain in taste -besides the grilled flavor. *Curried Lemongrass Crusted Swordfish - with stir-fired Israeli couscous, passion fruit vinaigrette, and Asian ratatouille for $36* The swordfish was dry and 'rubbery' with no hint of curry nor lemongrass in the dish.

Bottom line: FANTASTIC, SUPERB, STUNNING!!!!! Okay, so on a more serious note, I am hands down a "foodie", plain and simple. I love food, not all food, lets be clear about that. I like fresh, organic, clean, exciting food. The food experience to me is just that, it should be an experience, eating at a good restaurant should leave you wanting more, it should leave a tingle on your palate, and a desire to learn more about the chef/chefs who prepared such an incredible experience. This is how I felt after leaving Shabu. I have been coming to Park City from Los Angeles now for nearly 12 years, I have had the privilege of dining in every restaurant from Kimball Junction to the end of Park City's Main Street. Until now my favorites were Chmayo, Grappa, and Wahso. As far as I'm concerned there is absolutely no comparison in terms of either taste, creativity, freshness, and service. Every morsel that entered my mouth was like a mini Jackson Pollack painting, meaning......like Pollack's art, splashes of color, an intense passion with every swish of his brush, Chef Valika's fare colors ones palate with an array of unique and deliciously paired spices, fruits, fish, meat and vegetables in way's I've never thought possible or moreover, would dare to try.

Everyone in the party that I was dining with thoroughly enjoyed this restaurant. Our only complaint was the very loud noise level, which seemed out of proportion considering we were dining early in the evening on a Thursday. Memorable items included the delicious blistered green beans - perfectly done and not as greasy as the frying preparation might imply. I also highly recommend the seafood donabe. Shrimp and several different kinds of fish in a wonderfully salty and flavorful soy-based sauce with Thai basil - a very reasonable portion for being called a "small plate." My parents split the Teryaki sizzle plate with beef, chicken, and shrimp. They were extremely impressed with the choice, and upon trying some of the beef, so was I. Overall, a solid choice for Asian cuisine in Park City.

Over rated, over priced, poor service. To be fair they did take a few dishes off the tab because it was obvious that we were not happy but we still dropped over a hundred for drinks an appetizers.

I brilliantly executed "Freestyle Asian" restaurant with a cool edgy aesthetic. Owners' are always on-site, and one is the chef (Bob Valaika)...and he happened to train with Nobuyuki "Nobu" Matsuhisa! Apparently he was a master student! Eceptional food and service!

We ate here last week for dinner, a party of 8 (Asian) women, & we chose it based on the ratings. It was very disappointing & as such, overpriced. I expected it to be a little bit more "fancy," but it was in a basement, & there was nothing fancy about it. We ordered the seaweed appetizer which was probably the tastiest thing we had. We had some sushi that was average, & the Shabu Hot Pot w/ traditional broth, which was so bland, it was almost like eating noodles with plain hot water.

I must say Shabu delivered to me one of the best meals I've had in a really long time. We started off with a bottle of warm sake to warm our bones up from skiing in 11 degree weather. Next we had the soft shell crab roll. It was probably one of the best soft shell crab rolls I've had. The crab was perfectly fried. The couple next to us had the ramen (which looked SOO yummy) as well as the wagu beef that you get to sear with a hot rock they bring to your table. (I will definitely have to try that one the next time I'm in Park City) For the main course my boyfriend ordered the Miso Fish and I got the locally raised lamb dish. The Miso Fish dish was hands down the best dish on the table. It reminded me of the Miso butter fish dish I had at Umi in San Francisco's Potrero Hill. The server said they soak the fish for 2 days in the miso marinade. No wonder it's SO GOOD! The egg foo yung they served with it perfectly accompanied the dish. I had the locally raised lamb that was served with a mushroom risotto. I never had 5 spice paired with lamb before and I thought it went pretty well with it. My boy friend thought the lamb was a bit too tough since the meat next to the bone was really difficult to cut through. And again the risotto was perfectly seasoned to accompany the lamb. I don't know how many times I've gone to other restaurants where they have a perfectly seasoned main dish but they just don't pay attention to the side dishes that go along with it. Shabu has that formula fine tuned and knows how to pair their dishes perfectly. I think it also helps that the head chef actually takes the time to come out of the kitchen and talk to his patrons and ask them "How was your meal?" After that filling meal we didn't have any room for dessert. I'm so bummed Shabu isn't in SF but at least I now have a go to restaurant in Park City after I hit the slopes :)

I'm a big fan of Shabu. My wife and I are there frequently, enjoying sake, sushi and shabu shabu. The last time we went in, the service was great as usual. Kenny always takes care of us. I think we may have to go again tonight!

This is one of the hot spots on main street, always busy always enjoyable. We sat at the bar and had the Park City 2011 award winning cocktail, was so good we just stayed and never moved. The popcorn firecracker shrimp, and black cod was great and shared a few sushi rolls. Nice spot. Cool art too.

this was the first restaurant that we hit up when we arrived to PC. we decided to sit at the sushi bar and that was an excellent choice! jay was our sushi chef and he was awesome! we ordered hamachi sashimi (we were given hamachi belly!) we also ordered the lollipop role which was a cucumber wrapped hamachi jalapeno role... heaven! finally we wanted to order a non sushi dish, so we asked jay for a suggestion for something not on the menu. he grilled the hamachi collar and put some kimchi and veggies on the plate- amazing! a little pricey but well worth it!

So, here's the caveat: Coming from San Francisco, arguably Asian Fusion mecca, Shabu is pretty average. Sure, the potstickers are tasty, the miso-glazed black cod buttery, the ambiance trendy-ish...but the sushi rolls are only ok, and let's be honest, the restaurant is located on the second floor of a makeshift mall where the only restroom is down a random, deserted corridor, and some guy with a bird on his arm makes his home in the entryway. Before you judge me as a complete snob, I do think that Shabu is a nice change from the many (albeit delish) Italian & American restaurants that line Main Street. And clearly the foodies think so, too - Shabu has been written up in the likes of Food & Wine, Conde Nast Travel and The New York Times. You're sure to enjoy your meal (provided you don't get our server), but do try Umami in SF and tell me how your opinion changes.

Visited tonight. Upstairs in a mall - really don't have a problem with that. Service was slow. Molly was our server (another reviewer was unfairly unkind to her), I think the problem here might be the kitchen. Potstickers were OK - nothing much to write home about. My dining partner had Sushi - OK, nothing to write home about. I had the steak. $38 for a very mediocre dish. I expect better. Dinner took 2 1/2 hours, not by choice!

When we saw the sign outside for "$5 rolls", we were ecstatic. Park City is expensive, so $5 sushi seemed like a steal! We sat outside and our waiter kindly informed us that this $5 deal was actually a happy hour special, and that we had about 5 minutes to order as much as we could before it ended (it was 5:55PM). We ordered 6 rolls (spicy tuna, spicy hamachi, hama negi, unagi maki, spicy hama negi, death roll) and also a Sapporo tin (also part of the happy hour, $6). The waiter brought out two rolls at a time, with plenty of ginger and wasabi. The first thing I noticed was how small they were, but the presentation was wonderful. But when the waiter brought out the next plate, the rolls seemed a bit bigger, and the rolls on the last plate were a decent size. I guess each roll has a different size (spicy tuna was the smallest, death roll was the biggest). Out of all the rolls, I loved the death roll the most and would highly recommend it to people who love to douse things in hot sauce. It was one of the very few things I have tasted in UT that was actually spicy! And maybe it was because Park City was so dead (we went in mid-late Sept.), but our service was great. Our waiter was very kind and made sure our waters were filled, and brought out the sushi plates on time. I don't think I would have rated this highly if they didn't have that happy hour deal though.

I'm not sure that Shabu is so much Thai as Asian-inspired fusion. It rules. I've been there 3 times, always in the winter. The restaurant is upscale, dimly lit and nicely decorated. The waitstaff is friendly and knowledgable. The food... ah the food. It's varied and everything I've tried has been great. Edamame, salads, fondue-style meats, steak... it's an eclectic menu with an Asian flair. Reservations advised, particularly on winter weekends, book way in advance. You'll love it. Parking is typical PC street parking, so in the winter good luck or take the bus!

Awesome food, great staff (service a little slow but they dont forget about you), and great drinks. We went on Friday night and were able to be seated out on the back deck. We split the Ceviche and Potstickers and both were amazing although the Ceviche was a little unwieldy. For our main course we dove into the sushi and it didnt disappoint. Mixed drinks were a welcome relief after a tough day of hiking. Definietly top 3 restaurant in PC for me.

Okay so, I'm not the best judge of sushi because I'm white and from Utah. But seriously, you should try this place it's the best fresh food and great ambiance. Not really a review writer but this place sparks mode for writing a great review.

The food at Shubu is the main attraction. We had the firecracker shrimp, excellent, the potstickers, yummy and the combination Shabu. The combination shabu includes fish, tofu, beef and vegetables and 3 different sauces. We don't usually like to pay for cooking our own food, but on vacation, it is always fun and we enjoyed this dish immensely. The Achilles heal for Shabu is the service and the management. We showed up on time for our 6pm reservation and were asked to go find something else to do for a while because they were "slammed." If you can't run your 6pm reservations on time, you can imagine what it is like at 8pm. many tables were empty, even though it was Christmas week, but they reported no availability when I called to confirm our reservation (they were confused and thought I was looking for a reservation). They would probably make 2x as much money if they could just manage the reservations and tables. Shabu is of the few restaurants in town that does not participate in OpenTable, even thought they probably would benefit from it the most. Another nit: the waiter steered us away from a beef teriyaki appetizer dish for our six year old son in favor of a beef tenderloin item that was "for kids." they have no printed kids menu, just stuff that the waiter tells you about when he comes to take your order, after you struggled to find an appropriate adult item for your kid. Imagine our surprise when the bill came and the kids portion of the beef tenderloin was $34. That is just wrong. Nevertheless, we keep going back to Shabu because the food is inventive and fun, even if the service and management is uneven, bordering on completely incompetent.

First of all, this is not a Thai restaurant, this is straight up asian fusion. I dunno, maybe I don't like asian fusion that much, but we did not have the yelp superstar experience 5/5 that I see for the rest of the reviews. Maybe its just the fact that a bad server can ruin a good / decent meal. I think if you are paying more than $50 per plate the service better be top notch, and in this case it wasn't. That just ruins things. The food was OK but not worth $130+ between two of us. The server was lackluster, I think its always a raw deal when you see another server serving another table 100x better than your own server. Anyways thanks to our server Molly this is 3/5 stars. We had potstickers - ok, firecracker shrimp - ok, combo shabu bowl - ok, and ribeye - which was delectable. And a desert wine to try and turn the night around which was pretty good. Anyways, the way I see it - caveat emptor - and I wont be coming back.

Very surprised at how good the food was here! I am more particular with the Shabu shabu experience being half Japanese, but they did everything right here! It was delicious! I wanted to go back the next night it was so good! The apps were great! You can't go wrong with the specials and the service was on top of it until it got a little bit busy. We saw some people get ignored but luckily we came early and got served pretty quickly. Good creative food in a nice modern atmosphere!

There were some good things about Shabu and some pretty bad things about Shabu. First the good - the firecracker shrimp was excellent. Yes it's somewhat similar to something you'd get at PF Changs but it tasted really good. The service was quite nice too. I sat at the bar and the hostess and bartender where extremely attentive and polite. In general, there's a good vibe here. The bad - NO place that calls itself an "Asian" restaurant should serve a sushi roll with crunchy rice. Crunch is OK with some sugar laden cereals (one of my childhood favorites)and in potato chips, but not sushi! I had to say something about this to the staff. My main dish was seared ahi that simply had too much pepper on it. I actually like pepper but that was about all I could taste. In addition, it had to be the toughest piece of seared ahi I've ever had. Fortunately there were two large pieces so I only ate the one that had a good cut. So - pay attention to what you order and read reviews. Some things are great and others you need to steer clear from So really this is a two star write up but they stuff blue cheese in my martini olives and it reminded me of Maui.

Great cuisine. The poki salad and scallops were remarkable.

Enjoyed the Firecracker Shrimp but was underwhelmed by the sushi - the rice was cold making it feel like one step above Grocery store sushi

On our third attempt to eat at Shabu, we were succesful. It was well worth the wait. Nicely done Dim Sum and Sashim were both fab. Two of us shared an entree. That worked out well. No room for dessert. We also enjoyed the Canera Creek Pino.

Love Shabu. Loved it before (last year) but the new location further down Main St is Spectacular! Great service, great great great raw fish, very cool vibe and atmosphere (a little louder and more hip and "scene-y" than a Wahso). If you're coming to Utah and want a California-feel, try out this swanky joint. (I do feel the popcorn shrimp is over-rated, it was the one dish we ordered that I didnt like, too heavy after more than a couple bites)

We had a very mediocre experience that cut across all aspects of the dinner. To start with, the portions were so small for the price that after appetizers, my wife had to order two entrees, and she's not a big eater. Sot the actual price for a reasonable size entree is in the $45-$65 range. In addition, the service was remarkably poor. Our dinner took 2 hours and we were constantly waiting. After waiting 30 minutes for a single dessert, we asked the waiter for our check. Rather than be apologetic, he said he'd cancel our dessert order and bring the check. An acceptable approach would have been to make every effort to get us the dessert and not charge us for it. He actually told us it was almost done, but they threw it out when I asked for the check. I'll never return and discourage others from going.

My fingers are tired from writing about restaurants, but Shabu needs another 5-star because its the BEST restaurant in town. I don't think I've ever gone there and not been impressed by the chefs, the decor, or the food. They have beautiful desserts, excellent sake, and really inventive dishes. The coconut-encrusted tofu is probably my favorite, but there are a lot of stellar options. PS. get a drink at sidecar after--the chefs will.

The food was very good and the service was very mediocre. We would have to track down our waitress to get her attention and there did not seem to be a lot of pride among the staff in what they were serving. This restaurant is at the high end of the price scale so you would expect high-end service to go with it. With excellent service, I would give Shabu a five star rating for the food is delicious. Alas, the lack of attentiveness by the staff brought the experience down to a 4-star. Have your expectations properly set going in.

normally not a fan of asian "fusion" food... Asian food is quite good when prepared with authentic ingredients and experience... SHABU SHABU is GREAT... they have all the great ingredients in their dishes with new age ways of preparing it and IT WORKS HERE.... the brothers do a great job and it is a very special place to dine... wish it was a bit cheaper so we could come and dine more often, but then the quality would be an issue... so continue with a good thing.... ROCK ON...

(4)David B.

(5)Frank W.

(5)Michele S.
A meal nothing short of flawless! The Jalapeño Himachi and Wagyu beef cooked at your table on a hot rock are absolute must haves and were "slap your mama good"! I will make this one of my required stops anytime I'm in Park City!
(5)Leslie O.
(5)Ivan M.
(3)Nina Z.
(5)Sheryl S.
You must have the blistered green beans!!! What a blend of wonderful tastes for the tongue! The spicy tuna roll was pretty average but I'm so happy they have a gluten free menu and soy sauce. Nice!!!! Very nice!!!
(4)Jeremy T.

Great spot for sushi. Great ambience. Cowboy roll is my favorite. Friendly staff. Great location. Hard to find this level of quality sushi.

DELICIOUS! Just dined here and had to come home and immediately write a review. Great restaurant, great atmosphere and GREAT service. Of course food was delicious. Everything was flavorful but not salty and nothing too heavy. Recommendations: Fire cracker shrimp AMAZING! Blistered String beans SOO GOOD! Jalapeño Yellowtail TOO GOOD!! Wagyu hot rock WORTH IT! Shabu shabu w/ traditional broth SATISFYING! Ramen DELICIOUS and lastly.. FRIED ICE CREAM WAS YUUUMM!!! Quality food and quality service!

(2)Brian A.
(4)Margaret L.
(3)N. M.
Came here to try the shabu shabu and was disappointed. Not authentic at all. The beef slices were too thick and there were practically no veggies provided, just lots of cilantro. The drinks were good but overall, would not come back to try more given the price for what you get.
(3)Carly H.
(5)S B.
(5)James Z.
Portions were extremely small, considering the high cost. Ribs were mostly fat. We would not recommend this restaurant. We only got 4 dumplings per order for about $16!
(1)Jordan S.
(1)Lynn M.
We ate at Shabu twice during our recent vacation in Deer Valley. Sushi was excellent as was the Miso Cod and Moo Shoo Duck. Service was attentive, good wine list and some interesting cocktails. A must for anyone visiting Park City.
(5)Kalyan C.

(4)Hossein D.
I love this place. The have the best lamb. Try their lamb dish. It is small fancy restaurant at the heart of Main Street park city. Great bar. Sushi was fresh and beautifully served. Very nice and friendly staff.
(5)Linda S.
Service is not too good, Long time waiting for waiters to take the order! And long time waiting for the food to come! The good is just so so... Nothing specially or super at all :(

A very good experience. Nice atmosphere. Good food

This restaurant rocks. Excellent menu and excellent service - truly a dining experience. Both mom and I as well as the kids loved everything we ordered.
(5)Daisy S.
Always good. The 'meat on a rock' is delicious and a really fun way to eat. The little two person booth is really nice and tucked away enough that it's feels intimate without feeling secluded.
(5)Andrew S.
(5)Dirk S.

This is one of out go to places in Old Town Park City. Love the food especially the sashimi and rolls!
(5)Claire G.
(5)Natalie C.
Horrible waitress; she attempted to talk us out of ordering the Shabu Shabu, but we went against her recommendation and ordered it anyway. It was delicious!
(3)Davis R.
(4)Ashley M.
Expensive but good quality food and relaxed atmosphere. Try the Waygu beef stone! Quite the experience.
(5)John K.

(2)Christine M.

(4)Bianca C.

(5)Beverly W.
(4)Murissa W.
Culinary arts at it's finest, the chef must be a genius! Delivered dishes more beautiful and delectable than expected. Great atmosphere and super friendly staff. Must try: Apps- Hot rock, firecracker shrimp, blistered green beans Main Dishes- Black Cod, Ribs

there's another reviewer who had the same HORRIBLE Waitress as we did: we asked about the Shabu Shabu Hotpot to which she responded "i think it's the worst thing on the menu.

(1)Linda A.
It was a blast. Cooking on the hot rock was fun. The potstickers were great as was as the Black cod. My grandchildren enjoyed it also. The staff was very attentive.
(4)Eliza C.
It was all just descent Americanized Asian food. I had the ramen with chicken, the broth was not flavorful at all, and they claimed to have imported Japanese noodles.
(3)Steven H.
We were there for New Year's Eve. It was a 5 course set menu. First course was blue fin tuna sashimi in a jalapeño sauce. OMG, it was fantastic. The sauce was amazing with the fish. It was amazing. Second course was a stack of seafood and that was delicious also. I loved the great flavors of the seaweed and the shiitake mushroom. Third course was the scallop with celery root purée. Another winner. After the scallops, they brought out a sweet frozen treat to cleanse our palettes. It was a nice touch. Fourth course was lamb chops. I hate lamb. I never cook it, never order it, and if it wasn't part of the fixed menu, I would have never eaten it. Well, I devoured it. It was the best lamb I've ever eaten. It was cooked perfectly and was tender. I loved it so much, I picked at whatever meat was left on my wife's lamb chops. Final course was a chocolate cake. It looked like fudge and I thought it would be dense. But, it was light and delicious. It was a very memorable meal. She actually thought it was the best meal she's eaten this year, and we loved eating at Robuchon's Atelier in Nov. she preferred this meal. The meal made the night very memorable. Thanks Shabu.

(5)Philip R.
(5)JJ B.
Best food in Park City ! First time skiing in Park City, certainly wont be the last, and when we come back this will be our first stop.
(5)Occy V.
(2)Laurie N.
Super fabulous food and service every time! The firecracker shrimp is to die for!

(5)Mai S.
Food was great - we had the cod, beef on hot rocks, firecracker shrimp, and ribs. Everything was delicious and well prepared and the restaurant accommodated our party of eight with small children very nicely.
(4)Steven G.
Great Sushi. Cool Vibe. They were accommodating despite being very busy. Would return
(4)Michael K.
Must Must Must visit Shabu when in Park City . Rolls are terrific , specials are amazing. Service was outstanding
(5)Stephan F.
Really cool atmosphere! Steam punk Dragon on the wall. Food was decent, well presented maybe a little expensive. The lamb was the best dish we got. I would definitely come back. I came on a monday night it was pretty quiet so food didn't take too long. Miso soup is really good.
(4)Patti C.
Patti and Dennis San Rafael, California

(3)David A.
(4)Matthew S.
We visited Shabu on our recent trip to Park City. Shabu is a nice restaurant that was recommended by many locals as the best sushi in the area. My wife and I enjoyed the Nitro Roll and Mango Madness.
(4)Eric R.
(4)Kenneth Q.
Without question this is one of the best Asian fusion restaurants I've ever been to. The menu is incredibly inventive and excellently prepared, and this is even before I found out that the owner worked for seven years at NOBU. Also, our server, Aimee, was informative and excellent.
(5)Kelly B.
Good service, some dishes good others just so so. Get the hot string beans!
(3)LJ A.
(1)Jaime L.
(3)eric m.
(5)Lisa T.
(3)Jenny S.
(4)Kevin T.
(3)Matt C.
(4)Alexandria B.

(4)Charlie B.
Over rated, over priced, poor service. To be fair they did take a few dishes off the tab because it was obvious that we were not happy but we still dropped over a hundred for drinks an appetizers.
(2)Marko B.
(4)Alana R.

We come here every summer and can't wait to get to Shabu. Never been disappointed. Love all the small dishes. Great service and a fun atmosphere especially donning outside.

Excellent sushi and very creative small plates. The wagyu beef hot rock appetizer was awesome. Nice service and fun place.

this was the first restaurant that we hit up when we arrived to PC. we decided to sit at the sushi bar and that was an excellent choice! jay was our sushi chef and he was awesome! we ordered hamachi sashimi (we were given hamachi belly!) we also ordered the lollipop role which was a cucumber wrapped hamachi jalapeno role... heaven! finally we wanted to order a non sushi dish, so we asked jay for a suggestion for something not on the menu. he grilled the hamachi collar and put some kimchi and veggies on the plate- amazing! a little pricey but well worth it!

ROCK ON...
